Public Health International (PHI) and the Ajijic Rotary Club of Jalisco, Mexico joined forces in 2003 to improve sanitation and water systems for orphanages and schools.    The two organizations dug wells, and built latrines for four institutions.

In addition, safety fencing, textbooks, desks, and other school and teaching supplies were obtained and distributed to meet the needs of 3500 students and orphans.  The long-term goal of the Rotary Club and PHI is to assure a sustainable program for safe water, sanitation, and teaching resources to all Jalisco regional institutions.  PHI is also working with leaders to assure that public health education is added to the teaching curriculum.
